BLUE SEAS PARADE

LENNOX HEAD, NSW

The future family home of Mohana Aspillaga, Gabriel Borges and their son Indi, is an architectural journey in which each decision is informed by their collaborative approach as both designers and project owners. Nestled along the coast with panoramic views over Boulders Beach and sublime western sunsets, the residence unfolds in stages, combining Gabriel’s architectural precision and Mohana’s layered interior expertise to bring their shared vision to life. The result is a sophisticated and seamless blend of function, style, and coastal living that harmonises beautifully with its natural surrounds.

Through an intuitive approach to interior design, Mohana Aspillaga has imbued the home with a sense of warmth and understated luxury, featuring custom furniture from MOA Curations. Each piece has been designed specifically to complement the architectural lines of the residence, creating a serene, cohesive flow from room to room. In every space, her meticulous selection of materials and textures echoes a commitment to beauty, refinement, and comfort. Gabriel Borges brings his architectural eye to the project, adding structural detail and precision to each aspect of the home, from the exposed galvanised steel framing and expansive glazing to the refined Dominion-profile Monument Colorbond cladding.

Every material has been carefully selected to merge durability with elegance, integrating light-colored fiber cement, hardwood decks, and landscaping that subtly elevate the home’s connection to its surroundings. Elevated on round steel columns, the residence reduces its impact on the steep site, embracing an eco-conscious design approach that respects the site’s natural character. The layout is thoughtfully crafted to capture the northern light, featuring double-height living areas facing the ocean, a working and art studio below, and a sheltered pool area to the north and west, creating both an inviting outdoor retreat and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

In collaboration with Lucena Engineers and builder Peter McGrath, Gabriel and Mohana have implemented a prefabricated construction approach to ensure minimal site impact and streamlined assembly, achieving their goal of sustainability and harmony with the neighborhood. This process embodies Wak’a Designs’ ethos of thoughtful, sustainable architecture.

Anchoring the site is a fully self-sufficient, two-bedroom secondary dwelling that reflects the architectural language of the main house. Designed to be independent yet cohesive, it complements the primary residence while offering privacy and function.

With both Development Application (DA) and Construction Certificate (CC) approvals, 53A BSP is set to break ground soon, marking the beginning of a new chapter in sustainable, luxurious coastal living—an immersive experience shaped by the design expertise and shared vision of Gabriel Borges and Mohana Aspillaga.
